His life revolves around racing. Whether running, lifting weights, practicing or taking photos, 21-year-old Jonathon Zie- galman always has car rac- ing on his mind. Ziegalman said he got into racing when he was 9, after his father took him to go-cart racing tracks all around Florida.
“He raced before I did,” said Ziegalman, who lives in Boca Raton. “He took me to the track and got me into go-carting.” Over the following five years, Ziegalman raced go- karts. As a teenager, he moved into racing single- seat formula cars, which are genuine race cars driv- en on tracks that are con- siderably larger than go- cart tracks.
He said he decided to start racing different types of cars to work his way into aprofessionalseries. “It’s almost like a ladder system,” he said of formula car racing.
Since getting involved with formula racing, Ziegal- man has been involved in several professional race series, including Formula Dodge and Formula BMW. Last season, he was in the Star Mazda Series. Since the next car racing season doesn’t begin until January, Ziegalman said he is not sure whether he wants to stick with formula car racing for another year or switch to racing sports
